The newly designated Coach K Highway / NC 751 in Durham. (John Gaither) |
Just recently, NCDOT has named a portion of NC 751 in Durham after retired Duke University Men's Basketball Coach Mike Krzyzewski.
NC 751 from Kerley Road to Duke University Road has been designated as the "Coach K Highway." Signs are now up - and John Gaither was kind enough to allow us to share the photo he took of the new signage.
Of course, the new signage is just another chapter in the Tobacco Road Rivalry between Duke and the University of North Carolina. Carolina fans are quick to point out that their two beloved coaches, Dean Smith and Roy Williams, have parts of Interstate 40 named after them.
On the other hand - for North Carolina State fans - it's still 1983 and I-40 hasn't even been built through most of the area yet.
If you had a highway named after you, where and what would it be?
