This week on Florida Friday I look back at the western terminus of Florida State Road 60 in Clearwater Beach which is at Pier 60.
I went up to Pier 60 after crossing the Sunshine Skyway Bridge and traveling to the De Soto National Memorial. FL 60 is one of the primary east/west state roads created after the 1945 Florida Highway Renumbering. FL 60 is 161 miles in length from Clearwater Beach on the Gulf of Mexico to FL A1A in Vero Beach. I don't seem to recall having much of an agenda other than seeing a route terminus and a sandy beach line on the Gulf since it was such a rarity living out in deserts of Arizona at the time.
