East of Coleman on Sumter County Route 468 there is a small Baptist Church at the location of what was once the original County Seat of Adamsville.
According to the monument above Adamsville was selected as the first County Seat of Sumter County when it was spun off from Marion County in 1853. The County Seat was moved to Sumterville in 1858 and Adamsville gradually over time faded away to just a location on a map. Apparently the Courthouse in Adamsville was located next to the grounds the modern Baptist Church now sits on.
