Back in 2016 I drove California State Route 2 over the Angeles Crest Highway from California State Route 138 in the Mojave Desert to Interstate 210 in La Canada Flintridge. The Angeles Crest Highway refers to a 66 mile portion of CA 2 straddles the ridge of the San Gabriel Mountains within Angeles National Forest.  The route of CA 2 on the Angeles Crest Highway is a signed as a National Forest Scenic Byway and California Scenic Highway. CA 2 as a State Highway was created in 1934 from several Legislative Route Numbers: -  LRN 162 from CA 3/LRN 60 (future US 101A and CA 1) Santa Monica to US 99/LRN 4 on San Fernando Road north of downtown Los Angeles . -  LRN 61 from US 99/LRN 4 to LRN 59 near Phelan. -  LRN 59 east over Cajon Pass by way of Arrowhead Lake to CA 18/LRN 43. While visiting Los Angeles recently I stopped at the 2nd Street and 3rd Street Tunnels through Bunker Hill. Bunker Hill is a large hill located in downtown Los Angeles.  Traditionally Bunker Hill was physical barrier which separated neighborhoods of Los Angeles.  Beginning in the late 1860s developers began to construct Victorian style homes on top of Bunker Hill.  As people began to move to Bunker Hill there was an increasing need to route traffic efficiently through the neighborhood. The first tunnel to be built through Bunker Hill was on 3rd Street in 1901 from Hill Street west to Flower Street.  The 3rd Street Tunnel has a utilitarian appearance which to the eye masks true age of the structure.   The 3rd Street Tunnel was built next to the original Angel's Flight incline railroad which moved pedestrian traffic uphill to Olive Street.  The original Angel's Flight operated until 1969 when it was removed for neighborhood redevelopment. This past April I drove a large portion 230 Kilometer portion of King's Highway 401 from KH 403 near Woodstock to KH 3 in Windsor. KH 401 is largest 400 series freeway in the Province of Ontario spanning 828 Kilometers/514.5 Miles from Ojobway Parkway in Windsor east to Auto Route 20 in the Quebec Provincial line.  KH 401 carries a segment of freeway in Toronto which has an average daily traffic volume of 416,500 vehicles a day which makes it the busiest road in North America.  KH 401 opened in segments from 1947 through 1968 while the current number designation dates to 1952. My approach to KH 401 west was from the south terminus of KH 403 near Woodstock of Oxford County. Windsor is signed as being 225 KM away from Woodstock on KH 401.
